 Dr. Galluch 

David B. Galluch, M.D. was inducted as Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) on February 15, 2011, during ceremonies at the Academy's 2011 Annual Meeting in San Diego.Dr. Galluch was one of 667 new members inducted.  

 An orthopaedic surgeon is a physician with extensive training in the diagnosis and non-surgical as well as surgical treatment of the musculoskeletal system, including bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles and nerves.

The AAOS has more than 36,000 members worldwide.  The Academy is the largest medical association for musculoskeletal specialists.  Its Fellows have completed medical school, plus at least five years of specialty study in orthopaedics in an accredited residency program, passed a comprehensive oral and written exam, and been certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.

With more than 36,000 members, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (www.aaos.org) or (www.orthoinfo.aaos.org) is a not-for-profit organization that provides education programs for orthopaedic surgeons, allied health professionals and the public.  An advocate for improved patient care, the Academy is participating in the Bone and Joint Decade (www.usbjd.org), the global initiative to raise awareness of musculoskeletal health, stimulate research and improve people's quality of life.  The years 2002-2011 have been declared National Bone and Joint Decade in support of these objectives.

Background

Travis brings to our practice several years of primary care experience evaluating and treating a variety of orthopaedic injuries, emergencies and conditions. He comes to us from Springfield Regional Medical Center emergency department, with prior urgent care experience in Columbia, SC. He currently serves as a student preceptor for Wittenberg University, mentoring future healthcare providers. Travis was also an active member of Pomona Community Health Action Team (PCHAT) in California which provided medical care to the underserved areas of the Los Angeles area.

As a Physician Assistant……

Travis will focus on orthopaedic conditions and injuries in the office as well as first assist our physicians in surgery. His philosophy is that every patient deserves personalized care, catered to their individual needs by a compassionate healthcare provider. He believes that just as every person is unique, so is every injury.

Cliff Fawcett, MSN, FNP, ATC

Springfield Orthopadic and Sports Medicine Institute (SOSMI) physicians and staff would like to congratulate our nurse practitioner, Cliff Fawcett, for receiving the Ted Quedenfeld Award presented at the 11th Annual Philadelphia Sports Medicine Congress on June 11, 2010 in Philadelphia, PA.   This prestigious award is given to a select few for their outstanding contributions to the field of Sports Medicine in the Philadelphia area.

Cliff has been a valued member of SOSMI team for two years and we are very proud of him for this accomplishment.  Way to go Cliff!

Dr. Galluch

David B. Galluch, M.D. earned his Board Certification from The American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery in July 2009. Certification by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery means that the orthopaedic surgeon has met the specified educational, evaluation, and examination requirements of the Board.

The American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS) was founded in 1934 as a private, voluntary, nonprofit, independent organization to serve the best interests of the public and the medical profession. These interests are achieved through the ABOS by establishing standards for the education of orthopaedic surgeons. These standards are evaluated by the ABOS through examinations and practice evaluations.

Since 1986 the ABOS has issued time limited certificates. Dr. Galluch, along with those orthopaedic surgeons who were certified in 1986 and thereafter, must maintain their certification by completing 120 hours of pertinent continuing medical education, undergoing a stringent peer review process to make certain they are respected by their peers and practicing ethical orthopaedic surgery, and taking and passing a written or oral examination. This maintenance of certification process must be performed every seven to ten years.

The ABOS is one of twenty-four certifying boards that have met the educational and organizational requirements necessary for membership in the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery are distinguished orthopaedic surgeons who are active in patient care, education and research.

Dr. Thompson 

Ian M. Thompson, M.D. was inducted as Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) on February 25, 2009, during ceremonies at the Academy's 2009 Annual Meeting in Las Vegas.

Dr. Thompson was one of 667 new members inducted.  The AAOS has 35,256 members worldwide.An orthopaedic surgeon is a physician with extensive training in the diagnosis and non-surgical as well as surgical treatment of the musculoskeletal system, including bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles and nerves.

Dr. Thompson and Dr. Galluch are investors in Ohio Valley Medical Center.  At times they refer patients to Ohio Valley Medical Center in connection with their care and treatment.
